Finding Refuge in Art with Valda Zobens.

Valda Zobens is best known for her paintings dealing with themes of temporary migration. Tempered by her own family’s immigrant experience, she began her Perilous Journey series, which is made up of one collection thus far. On March 2, Perilous Journey was added to, though, with Perilous Journey & Threads and Memories. Composed of a series of the artist’s paintings, some of which are accompanied by media images, Threads and Memories is a direct response to the contemporary refugee crisis.

the Beauties of London Fashion Week.

The gauntlet of consecutive fashion weeks is almost over, with only Milan remaining. While we’re sad to see it go, staying on top of what to wear next season can be exhausting. So, after trying to make sense of the hugely varying themes seen on the runways of New York Fashion Week, we were glad to see only two major themes reoccurring in the backstage beauty scene at London Fashion Week.

From Ragbags to Riches: NYFW AW2016.

In hindsight, every decade has a standout style defining it, the sixties had mod culture, the hippie era dominated the seventies, we saw punk in the eighties, and the birth of punk’s more subdued counterpart with grunge in the nineties. But as we get closer to contemporary fashion, it gets harder to define, leaving some critics claiming we are following a “no trend” trend. With global fashion weeks coming to a close, there is no better time to define our current era of fashion.

the Full Spectrum at the Grammy Awards.

Fashion was varied on the red carpet of 2016’s Grammy Awards, with the entire colour spectrum and silhouettes from ball gowns to tailored suits making appearances. We saw nominee and performer Lianne La Havas in a yellow-on-yellow floral gown, Selena Gomez in glittered blue Calvin Klein, and both Taylor Swift and Kimberly Schlapman of Little Big Town in fuchsia and salmon separates. With wardrobe changes and live performances, it certainly was a night of hits (and misses).

Louis Vuitton Versus the World.

Louis Vuitton has had little luck with their legal proceedings as of late, most recently in their lawsuit against Los Angeles-based designer house, My Other Bag. MOB screen prints sketches of iconic bag silhouettes from high end designers like Chanel and Céline to create a stylish reimagining of reusable bags.
