For most, the “effortlessly cool” aesthetic is a goal. For California native Hillary Taymour, it is a way of life and a business model. Even after taking a brief look behind the scenes, revealing all the effort that has gone into making Collina Strada an indie powerhouse, it’s safe to say Hillary Taymour is still effortlessly cool.
Plagiarism at PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week.
Feeha Jamshed returned to Pakistan’s runway at the recently concluded PFDC Pakistan Fashion Week with “Bomb Squad” after a two year hiatus. While taking time away from her own label, she spent her years working with Mahira Khan of Ho Mann Jahaan and Bin Roye. Despite the debut of an eye catching collection, Jamshed’s return was sullied when her cornerstone Bomb Squad prints got the designer accused of plagiarism. What do you think?
Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy at the United Nations.
The Commission on the Status of Women is celebrating their 60th year by investigating women in Pakistan, especially those effected by (or who have the threat of being effected by) honour killings. To educate the audience and contextualize honour killings within Pakistan, the commission hosted a screening of Canadian director Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy’s Academy Award winning short documentary “a Girl in the River: the Price of Forgiveness”.
SHE Picks: Microbead Free Exfoliants.
We all know plastic is bad for the environment, that’s why we recycle. What most of us don’t know is the environmental impact our beauty regime is having, with some of our most coveted exfoliators containing one of the most environmentally unfriendly plastics out there: microbeads. I help you prepare for the upcoming legislative banishment of microbeads by rounding up my top five favourite microbead free beauty products.
Humans of New York vs. Donald Trump.
Brandon Stanton is best known for his role behind the scenes on his Humans of New York photo blog. His voice is usually unobtrusive, only occasionally heard in the conversational blurbs accompanying the portraits of those who need a little more prompting. For the most part, the HONY portraits and the subjects therein speak for themselves. Considering the few circumstances the photographer has considered dire enough to speak out against, Stanton’s open letter to American presidential candidate Donald Trump carries weight.

The Aga Khan Museum has partnered with the Fredric Roberts Photography Workshops, a non-profit organization led by former Wall Street Executive Fredric Roberts, to help better the futures of 20 under privileged students from the Greater Toronto Area in an artistic manner.
Rocker Sweetheart Ellie Mae.
Recently spotted on the shoulders of Sophie Grégoire-Trudeau at the Canada 2020 Reception in Washington D.C., Ellie Mae’s designs are on the rise. Founded in Toronto in 2015, the eponymous label started out as an accessories brand and just recently broke into fashion with a line of rock music-inspired jackets.
Milanese Makeup.
I provide coverage on the makeup trends appearing on the runways in Milan for the AW16 fashion shows. With quite a few common themes across Milan’s, London’s, and New York’s runways, there are some looks that are sure to be a hit come autumn.
Womanhood Worldwide.
I explored what it means to be a woman for SHE Canada’s International Women’s day celebrations. I investigate the reasons behind Canada’s fall in rankings from 19th to 30th in the World Economic Forum’s gender category, delving into what is (and isn’t) holding Canadian ladies back and how we are striving to provide for ourselves.
Rock and Old: Merch Junkies’ Zara Mirkin.
While not often considered a timeless era of fashion, 1970’s rock and roll subculture will always be the epitome of cool. David Bowie, Mick Jagger, and Alice Cooper are now the paragon of pop culture. With the racks of fast-fashion five-and-dimes lined with the iconic imagery of individuality, these martyrs of individuality have started losing their meaning.
Merch Junkies founder Zara Mirkin is fighting this status quo in true ’70s style.
