Summer brings in the warm weather that facilitates weekends spent at the campgrounds, evenings in the swimming hole, and dinners on the patio. Unfortunately the warm weather also brings in the stifling, face melting humidity. Fortunately, these top five setting sprays can provide a solution.
State of Emergency in Fort McMurray.
The province of Alberta is being ravaged by another devastating wildfire leaving Tyler Warman, the Mayor of Slave Lake, with an “eerie sense of déjà vu.”
The out of control fires in Fort McMurray are horrifyingly reminiscent of the horrible blazes that destroyed Slave Lake and the surrounding areas five years ago. The 2011 fires were the second costliest disaster in Canada, having left more than 425 properties levelled or damaged. Considering the scope of the wildfires now burning in the north eastern corner of the province, it looks like that may not be a title Slave Lake will be holding for much longer.
Redesigning Masculinity.
Displaying an interesting use of asymmetry, Cherry Luk’s latest collection TRANS/form was conceptualized by draping menswear pieces over a female form mannequin, giving undeniably masculine garbs a feminine edge. The collection is hard to describe, especially when trying to use indicators of “masculine” and “feminine”, but considering Luk’s encouragement to challenge the status quo, our confusion is probably intentional.
Lamborghini Calgary.
At the top of a rise overlooking the southeast part of Calgary, on the city’s Heritage Drive, sits a brand-new Lamborghini dealership, the fourth in Canada. I cover the illustrious opening celebrations.
Lobbies by Lagerfeld.
Karl Lagerfeld took to Toronto for a night of firsts last April, spending his very first visit to Canada at a private event to celebrate the Art Shoppe Lofts + Condos development in Toronto, his first collaboration with a Canadian company.
Dressed in Show.
Fashion and film industry magnates gathered in New York on February 18 for a screening of Italian filmmaker Alice Rohrwacher’s installation of Miu Miu’s ongoing short film series Women’s Tales, which challenges and celebrates femininity.
Marino Takes Miami.
Since founding his eponymous studio in New York in 1978, and counting the likes of Andy Warhol and Yves Saint Laurent as his early clients, Peter Marino has built a reputation for creating forward-thinking designs.
The Dawning of a New Age: Laura Albertí.
I had the chance to speak to young fashion designer, Laura Albertí, about her intellegent, high-concept designs.
Baking Soda Skincare.
Baking soda has long been one of those well kept beauty industry secrets, with brands like Philosophy, GlamGlow, and Dr. Dennis Gross using sodium bicarbonate or other baking soda derivatives in their products. Offering mild exfoliation, pore minimization, blackhead removal, and a cure to mild acne, it’s no wonder skincare companies have been capitalizing on this simple yet powerful ingredient. I round up the best way to save on this trend with DIY.
Victoria Beckham Esteé Lauder Collaboration.
Victoria Beckham is no stranger to makeup lines. Most recently, the Spice Girls alum worked with London-based nail bar and polish producer, NailsInc, in a colour collaboration everyone was dying to get their hands on (and dying to get on their hands). Since the success of Judo Red and Bamboo White, we’re sure Beckham has been approached by countless cosmetics companies to put her stylish twist on their brands. And considering the NailsInc Nail Duo by Victoria Beckham was limited edition and impossible to find during its debut week (let alone a year later), the world needed her to accept one of those offers.
