the Beauties of London Fashion Week.

The gauntlet of consecutive fashion weeks is almost over, with only Milan remaining. While we’re sad to see it go, staying on top of what to wear next season can be exhausting. So, after trying to make sense of the hugely varying themes seen on the runways of New York Fashion Week, we were glad to see only two major themes reoccurring in the backstage beauty scene at London Fashion Week.

From Ragbags to Riches: NYFW AW2016.

In hindsight, every decade has a standout style defining it, the sixties had mod culture, the hippie era dominated the seventies, we saw punk in the eighties, and the birth of punk’s more subdued counterpart with grunge in the nineties. But as we get closer to contemporary fashion, it gets harder to define, leaving some critics claiming we are following a “no trend” trend. Fashion was varied on the red carpet of 2016’s Grammy Awards, with the entire colour spectrum and silhouettes from ball gowns to tailored suits making appearances. Przemek Pyszczek’s Soviet Sculptures.

Found in Berlin’s Schöneweide region, sculptor Przemek Pyszczek’s studio is a long way from home. Drawn to his home country of Poland’s kitschy charm, Pyszczek found his future muses in Soviet-era artifacts. With a background in architecture his artistic obsession began with photography of Wielka Płyta, Poland’s solution to the immediate need for post-war housing, and later evolved to sculptures that incorporated Soviet architecture-inspired elements.

Elie Saab’s $400,000 Couture Dream.

Lebanese designer Elie Saab has a reputation for creating indulgent gowns, having previously dressed a Belgian Countess and Princess Claire of Luxembourg (whose gown had 50,000 pearls and a 13 foot train, taking a rumoured 3,900 hours to make) for their royal weddings. While it may seem Elie Saab is at the peak of extravagance, he out did himself with a gown costing more than $404,000.
